5th Grade Honors Chorus
Each spring, the top 5% of fifth graders from all schools in Frederick County gather to form that year's FCPS Honors Chorus! This chorus of over 140 fifth graders performs at the Weinberg Center in downtown Frederick each spring.
Selection for participation in this ensemble is not only an honor, but also a significant responsibility for both students and their families. Singers are expected to attend one after-school rehearsal each week until the concert, and practice their music at home with a rehearsal CD and their sheet music. Parents and guardians must provide transportation for their child for these rehearsals. Additionally, fifth graders who are chosen to sing in Honors Chorus must attend two all-day rehearsals with the guest conductor at the Weinberg Center in order to sing in the concert. These mandatory rehearsals take place during the school day, two days prior to the concert in May. Students are responsible for making up any classwork that they miss. These two special rehearsals are organized and supervised by FCPS music teachers. Students are expected to have their concert music memorized by the first rehearsal at the Weinberg. Parents and guardians must provide transportation for their child to and from these two special rehearsals; however, Miss Fishel and Mr. Wagaman will help to organize a carpool among the participants.
